Q. Can
a non-Bahamian get residency through buying property?
A. Non-Bahamians
who own or intend to own property worth more than $500,000
may receive accelerated consideration for permanent
residency.
Should your home be valued at less than $500,000,
you may apply to the Director of Immigration for an
annual homeowner residence card. This card entitles
the owner, spouse and any minor children to enter and
remain in The Bahamas for the duration of the card’s
validity. This card is only to ease entry into The
Bahamas and is not equivalent to resident status.
There is a $500 fee for a homeowner residence card.
The Bahamian government takes great care in granting
work and residency permits. |

Dillycrab Realty is proud to welcome Sandals resort to the most
beautiful island in The Bahamas, Great Exuma.
Why The Exumas?
You could spend a whole year exploring The
Exumas, a 120-mile chain of 365 islands and cays (pronounced
keys) in the central Bahamas surrounded by waters and sea
life deemed the most exquisite in the world by yachtsmen,
sports fishermen and divers. Not surprisingly, The Exumas have
produced some of the Bahamas’ best boat builders and sailors.
The islands are sparsely populated, with the majority of
the population of approximately 3,600 people living on adjoining
Great and Little Exuma. Tourism, fishing and agriculture
are the main industries today.
Steeped in a rich history marked by Lucayan Indians, settlers
and pirates, cotton plantations and salt ponds, The Exumas
are also an important part of The Bahamas’ future. On Great
Exuma, you will find communities like Grand Isle Resort & Spa
and February Point with million-dollar plus luxurious condo
homes and hotel suites, the $240 million Crab Cay development,
the exclusive 480-acre enclave of Emerald Bay with its mixed
resort and residential offerings, waterfront property and
hillside lots and the exciting new Sandals Resort opening
in January 2010.
No wonder The Washington Post in 2004
named Great Exuma as one of the top 10 hot international destinations.
Once the closely-held secret of yachtsman who considered it a boating paradise,
the Exumas have been discovered by the outside world. And the result has been
an investor’s paradise. Property values in Great Exuma and the nearby cays have
increased two and three-fold in a decade and despite economic challenges elsewhere,
Exuma property has held its value with no indication that prices will do anything
but continue to escalate. If the best time to buy was yesterday, today is better
than tomorrow.
